AMD has revealed more details on how FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 works and said that the technology will come to Xbox and will be available for some Nvidia GPUs.
Last week, AMD launched its advanced Radeon Super Resolution supersampling technology that supports most games and announced that its FidelityFX Super Resolution is getting upgraded, saying that FSR 2.0 is able to increase image quality and work on any GPU, AMD or NVIDIA. Now at GDC 2022, the company provided a closer look at the technology and revealed that FSR 2.0 is coming to Xbox.
AMD did not specify when exactly support for FSR 2.0 will appear on the Xbox, however, it noted that the technology will fully work on consoles. In addition, developers will have access to a set of tools to support the feature in their games, the way they did with DLSS and FSR 1.0.
FSR 2.0 uses a temporal upscaling algorithm that uses data from previous frames to reconstruct subsequent ones. Thanks to this, the zoom quality has increased in all modes compared to the first generation FSR. The company pointed out that the feature does not use machine learning, unlike NVIDIA DLSS.
FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 will be available to PC users in the second quarter of 2022.

The company also provided the community a list of both AMD and Nvidia GPUs where FSR 2.0 is expected to run. AMD recommends using FSR 2.0 on Radeon RX 590, RX 6500 XT or higher, and GeForce GTX 1070 and higher. In this case, users might be able to take advantage of FSR 2.0 at least on a 1080p monitor. At the same time, the higher the resolution, the more powerful graphics cards will be required.
AMD also noted that the technology will offer four quality modes: Ultra Performance, Performance, Balanced, and Quality. The modes will vary the amount of scaling that can be applied to the source image, depending on the quality/performance ratio you want.
