Expect to see more games using temporal upscaling soon.
AMD open sourced its FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 – a temporal upscaling solution that produces high-resolution frames from lower resolution inputs.
The technology supports DirectX 12 and Vulkan and should soon be available for Unreal Engine 4.26/4.27 and Unreal Engine 5 as a plug-in from the Unreal Marketplace. It boosts framerates and doesn't require dedicated Machine Learning hardware.
There are four quality modes: Quality, Balanced, and Performance, with Ultra Performance as an optional mode. These vary the amount of scaling to apply to the source image, depending on the quality/performance ratio desired.
AMD also provided detailed instructions on how to integrate FSR 2.0 into games. You can find the guide on the website.
Seems like we'll see more video games with FSR 2.0 soon. If you want to try it yourself, get the code from GitHub.
