AMD Released Preview of Fluid Motion Frames 2 for Increased Smoothness

The tech boosts frame rates and reduces latency.

CD PROJEKT RED

AMD launched the preview of Fluid Motion Frames 2, a new version of its frame generation technology meant to increase frame rates and performance.

AFMF is supported on AMD Radeon RX 6000 and 7000 series GPUs and some Ryzen 7000 series processors with Radeon graphics.

AFMF 2 adds new optimizations and settings for better frame generation, including AI-optimized enhancements for higher quality, lower latency, and better performance. There is also support for Vulkan and OpenGL games, borderless fullscreen, and interoperability with Radeon Chill, which lets you limit FPS.

One of the biggest improvements is "AI-optimized enhancements." The Search Mode helps with frame generation smoothness by improving "fallback," temporarily disabling AFMF in high-motion scenes "to ensure the best interpolated image quality."

A new setting in the Performance Mode reduces the overhead of AFMF 2 to help achieve high frame rates on a wider range of devices.

AMD also reduced latency, delivering 28% better results at 4K in Cyberpunk 2077 using the Ray Tracing: Ultra preset.

PC Gamer did notice FPS improvements in Counter-Strike 2 and Homeworld 3. The latter brought 35 FPS without any tech, 66 FPS with AFMF, and 74 FPS with AFMF 2.

So if you have a Radeon RX 6000 or 7000 series card, give it a go. Download the preview here and join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on InstagramTwitterLinkedInTikTok, and Reddit, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
