BioShock 4? Netflix film adaptation? A remake or a remaster?
2K Games
2K is seemingly preparing to make an announcement regarding the BioShock franchise, and what's more exciting is that it might come as early as before the end of this summer.
According to a recent report by reliable gaming informant Kurakasis, posted on mp1st, there are several possibilities regarding what the announcement will entail. It could reveal more details about one of the previously announced projects, such as BioShock 4 or the Netflix film based on the franchise. Additionally, the potential for a remake or a proper remaster of the original BioShock isn't ruled out, based on the information they've collected.
BioShock 4, which is possibly powered up by Unreal Engine 5, has been in development for at least five years since it was officially announced in the winter of 2019. The development team was "ramping up" for it, hiring 30 more talents last year. The film adaptation, revealed in 2022, was in production at Netflix along with Take-Two Interactive and 2K Games.
Other information mp1st obtained also indicates that besides "clear references to the original 2007 BioShock," Rapture, the fictional underwater city in the franchise, seems to be a focal point of the announcement.
So far, the timing of this possible announcement cannot be determined. But it's worth noting that this year's Summer Game Fest, hosted by Geoff Keighley, will go live on June 6. There is a chance that we could hear more from 2K during the event.
