An Upcoming Narrative Puzzle Game Where You're A Vampire Who Must Stay In The Shade To Survive & Solve Puzzles
Crimson Tale allows you to go back in time with blood magic.
Thruster Games is the development team behind Crimson Tale, an upcoming first-person narrative puzzle game created with Unreal Engine. It has an interesting concept: you are a vampire named Elizabeth, who must stay in the shade to survive and solve puzzles.
"Avoid the sun, go back in time with blood magic and use your vampire abilities to find the golden guard, ending this oppression once and for all," reads the game's description. If there is already a shadow, you can navigate through it; If not, as shown in the clip above, use your vampire power to manipulate objects, such as the wind vane, and make it stop at a specific angle that casts a shadow for you to move. There may be other items, like a banner, that you can unfold to create one.
You also possess other vampire powers, such as telekinesis, which allows you to grasp distant objects or lift heavy ones. Another key feature of the game is blood time travel. Elizabeth can use this ability to travel to the "past" in the place of whoever she used the ability on. By solving puzzles, she can alter past events and create a new path in the present.

The gameplay is puzzle-solving, mainly narrative-based, but a little bit of stealth and ways to take down enemies are included. Speaking of the protagonist's motivation, the developers explained that it was her willingness to save her loved ones and hunt down the big bad guy. Time is limited, so you have to get things done as soon as possible. "The narrative is the main engine to push the player into a daytime situation."
After a few years of development, Crimson Tale is set to be "coming soon" on Steam. If you're interested in giving this concept a try, don't hesitate to wishlist the game to be notified when it's out. Here are some more clips that show us the game's mechanics, gameplay, locations and more:
