Daniel Ceballos shows the behind-the-scenes magic.
Little Mayday is a cute sight in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but watching the references animators shot for scenes with her might be even more entertaining.
Daniel Ceballos, a senior animator at Sony Imageworks who has worked on the movie, shared some exciting shots that helped set up animations.
"I loved being able to piece together the tonal transition from playful to dramatic. Miles’ shift from opening back up to Peter, to feeling betrayed all over again," he said.
To make it perfect, he had assistance from Will Robson, Christine Kwok, a stuffed bear, and even a real baby.
"Bob Persichetti [the producer] had the idea for Miles to hold Mayday like someone awkwardly holding out a cat. I had no idea how a baby might react. So my brother, Raul, and niece saved the day. I guess she had fun and kept asking him to do it again lol It was perfect reference! Love u both."
Truly, the final scene turned out awesome, and I'm sure the little girl was of great help and inspiration.
