More about Steam Machine
Valve
Valve's Steam Machine has drawn much attention as one of the year's most anticipated hardware launches, but there's a fly in the ointment – due to software limitations, some beloved games will not run on the device.
As spotted by Eurogamer, games with anti-cheat software are unlikely to run on Linux, and since Steam Machine's operating system is a modified version of Linux, the same limitation applies to it.
For example, the affected titles include Destiny 2, Fortnite, Battlefield 6, GTA Online, Apex Legends, EA Sports FC, Call of Duty, League of Legends, Valorant, 2XKO, and other Riot games.
Epic Games
Battlefield 6, for instance, has proprietary anti-cheat technology built for Windows. GTA Online uses BattlEye Anti-Cheat, kernel-level anti-cheat software that, even on Steam Deck, requires special tools to ensure compatibility, meaning Steam Deck players are currently limited to GTA 5's Story Mode.
