Antonio Lattanzio's Destruction System Gets Satisfying Structural Damage
"It just works, and it looks insane."
Engineer and 3D artist Antonio Lattanzio has updated his custom Unreal Engine 5 destruction system, adding structural damage to make crashing environments even better.
Together with procedural destruction, the experience is now even cooler and more satisfying.
"Digging through massive static meshes in real time, zero Geometry Collections, works on any static mesh, anchors calculated automatically. It just works, and it looks insane."
Lattanzio used his system in the Lyra Starter Game project with GAS (Gameplay Ability System), "so every destructible interaction, every structural collapse, every weapon hit is going through a proper ability pipeline. This opens up crazy possibilities for gameplay mechanics down the road."
The system also supports Nanite and will feature different weapons, vehicles, chain collapses, and structural domino effects in the future.
