Artist Recreates Lumibricks Build Process with Geometry Nodes in Blender
Nintino even recorded custom brick-clicking sounds to make the animation more immersive.
Take a look at this cool Blender setup by 3D Artist Nintino. The artist used Geometry Nodes to craft a fascinating timelapse of a Lumibricks house assembling itself, which looks realistic and fantastic at the same time, with WIP sharing the mesmerizing behind-the-scenes look at the clip.
Nintino outlined their steps in a breakdown, explaining that first they built the model in Mecabricks, followed the set instructions, and then imported it into Blender. Notably, the building doesn't simply assemble from the bottom up; it reconstructs bag by bag, following the same order as the original instructions. To achieve this, each section of the building was placed in its own collection and numbered accordingly.
When animating the assembly process in Geometry Nodes, the artist experimented with camera angles and lighting. The cyberpunk room in the background is from Kitbash3D. An interesting detail is that for sound design, the artist recorded the brick-clicking sounds themselves. The final render ran for approximately 85 hours at 3K resolution using Cycles.
