Team Asobi's PlayStation 5 exclusive triumphed at this year's The Game Awards.
Sony
Defying the expectations of many, Astro Bot, a 3D platformer from Team Asobi and Sony Interactive Entertainment and a PlayStation 5 exclusive, has dominated this year's The Game Awards, winning the prestigious Game of the Year title and outshining such contenders as Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Acclaimed by players and critics alike, the platformer was praised for its engaging gameplay mechanics, well-designed levels, and a wealth of characters referencing iconic figures from other universes. Not only did Astro Bot win GOTY 2024, but it also triumphed across the board, taking home a total of four awards – more than any other game this year.
The game's publisher, Sony, has also left its competitors far behind by winning in six categories, with Playstack and Sega following with three wins each and Game Science and Xbox Game Studios rounding out the top three with two awards each. This achievement stands in stark contrast to last year's The Game Awards, where Sony, despite having the second-highest number of nominations, failed to win a single trophy, assuming we're excluding HBO/PlayStation Productions' TV adaptation of The Last of Us.
