Atari's Iconic 1980s Computer Is Back & Available For Purchase
Enjoy the classic experience with the 800XL, enhanced with modern display support, new features, and a collection of 25 games.
If you're Team Atari rather than Team Commodore 64, there's good news: you can now get your hands on a replica of Atari's best-selling 8-bit home computer. The 800XL aims to deliver an authentic Atari home computing experience for old-school fans and a new generation of gamers, creators, and retro enthusiasts, while adding modern conveniences like an HDMI output.
Introduced in 1983, the original 800XL was one of the key models in Atari's home computer lineup. With 64KB of memory, dedicated graphics and sound chips, and built-in BASIC, it could handle both everyday computing and gaming.
The new version includes the updated THECXSTICK, a modern take on the classic joystick with eight buttons. For more flexibility, four USB-A ports let users connect additional controllers and USB storage devices. The cartridge slot supports most cartridges originally released for the Atari 400, 800, XL, and XE computer series, and you can also load your own software created for 8-bit computers and the Atari 5200 console.
The 800XL features 25 games, including Asteroids, BattleZone, Berzerk, Boulder Dash, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, and Missile Command. Optional CRT filters and 12 display frames let users customize the visuals for their preferred retro gaming experience. With the 800XL and its mechanically switched 57-key keyboard, you can also write your own programs in the built-in Atari BASIC language.

"There is something gloriously unapologetic about the Atari 800XL," said Namer Merli, Senior Product Marketing Manager, PLAION REPLAI. "Today our technology comes in black, white, silver and glass. In 1983, apparently the future came in brown, cream and burnt orange... and it looked fantastic. But what I love most about THE 800XL is that it captures an entire way of experiencing technology. Real keys, real cartridges, a proper joystick, BASIC programming, games, secrets and discovery."
