Autodesk Acquires Golaem Crowd Simulation Tool

Its features will likely be integrated into Autodesk's products.

Autodesk has acquired Golaem, a crowd simulation software for Maya, along with the team behind it. Now, Autodesk will likely integrate the tool directly into its products. For now, nothing changes for existing users, but you can't buy licenses like before, so your best shot is to wait for Autodesk's next step.

"We believe that the Golaem team’s experience with procedural animation and AI will be a key addition to Autodesk’s teams, reinforcing Autodesk's leading position on animation tools and delivering even more user-friendly and productive workflows to its customers," said the Golaem team.

Golaem has been used in a variety of famous shows, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Mandalorian, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Its latest update added new workflows for creating crowd animations without simulation and support for modular character rigs, direct crowd animation replay, and experimental ML Deformer.

Hopefully, it won't end up among Autodesk's discontinued software.
