Autodesk has unveiled the features and improvements of Maya 2023, the upcoming update of the company's professional 3D animation, modeling, simulation, and rendering toolset. The team comments that Maya 2023 will focus on improved usability for both experienced and new Maya users.

The update comes with a new Blue Pencil tool, a completely revamped Booleans tool, a new Search feature, new retopology tools, and more. Here's a list of some of the new features:

Updated USD plug-in for Maya: The new version of Maya comes with an updated USD (Universal Scene Description) plug-in, letting artists work seamlessly with USD in conjunction with Maya workflows.

Blue Pencil: The update will introduce Blue Pencil, a new tool that allows Artists and Animators to create 2D drawings and annotations in the viewport. Replacing the earlier Grease Pencil tools, Blue Pencil offers more features and flexibility, including more drawing tools for text and shapes, as well as functionality like layers, retiming, and transformation.

Improved Boolean Operations: Maya 2023 will also improve Boolean modeling workflow by introducing a new Boolean node. The node will allow users to create and edit boolean operations in fewer clicks.

The update also comes with Boolean stack, a centralized location to edit your booleans. Input objects are displayed as layers, making it easier to organize and manage your operations. You can use layers to change an input object's boolean operation and display mode or toggle its inclusion in the boolean calculation.

What's more, Boolean input objects will display as orange wireframes, differentiating them from other objects in the scene.

Improved User Experience: Maya 2023 will add a new Application Home hub, Interactive Tutorials, Search, a new feature that makes it easy to look for menus, tools, commands, and even scene objects simply by typing them into a text field, and more.

New Sweep Mesh option: A new option will let users choose whether to use a single creator node or multiple creator nodes per curve.

Arnold for Maya 5.1.0 plug-in: Maya 2023 also comes with MtoA 5.1.0 which includes new features, bug fixes, performance optimizations, and improvements.

The update also includes lots of smaller feature updates and performance improvements, you can check them out by clicking this link.
