Avalanche Studios Was Developing an Iron Man Game Canceled by Disney
The open-world game would have allowed players to punch people through walls.
In an interview with MinnMax, Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Avalanche Studios – the creator of Just Cause and Mad Max – shared that years ago, the studio was developing an open-world Iron Man game "for a couple of years."
According to Sundberg, it would have allowed players to fly anywhere and punch characters through walls with Repulsors. Unfortunately, the game was canceled by Disney and Marvel around 2012 due to "company politics" including shortened development time – Sundberg said the whole year was "cut off" from the project.
Sundberg called the game a "very messy project that could have been really, really good" and lamented its end because of all the hard work put into it.
After leaving Avalanche in 2020, Sundberg founded a new company, Liquid Swords, which is working on an AAA open-world game on Unreal Engine 5.
