Better compare it with another game.
Avowed
The highly anticipated fantasy RPG by Obsidian, Avowed, is set for release this autumn and it has taken center stage during Xbox's Summer presentations. With its first-person perspective, fantasy setting, and a combat system that allows for dual-wielding of swords and magic, it's not surprising that it's drawing comparisons with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Avowed Game Director, Carrie Patel, has shared her thoughts on this comparison.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Patel was asked what she thought about the comparisons to Skyrim, and she responded:
“I think the best comparison is The Outer Worlds. I think that gives a much clearer idea of the scope of the game and also the design and layout. Like The Outer Worlds, Avowed has a series of open zones that are connected and unlock over the course of the game, rather than one giant map that you can walk through from beginning to end. And yeah, in terms of the quest structure, the narrative structure, it's a lot closer to The Outer Worlds, as well.”
Adding to this, Avowed's gameplay director, Gabe Paramo, who was also present during the interview, shared his thoughts:
“Personally, I don't love it [the comparison] because a lot of players can take whatever they want from those games and go, 'It's gonna have this and this and this.' I prefer if we just better explain what our game is doing.”
