It's considered to be a strategic move.
The release of Obsidian's Avowed is reportedly being pushed back from autumn 2024 to early 2025 despite the fact that the game's development is said to be going well.
Avowed
This is according to a recent report by Tom Warren of The Verge. Warren noted in his latest Notepad newsletter (subscription is needed to read the full report with a 30-day trial available) that the delay wasn't due to any issues with the game's development, but rather a strategic move to avoid a crowded release period for the Xbox Game Pass.
"I understand Avowed is in good shape, this is more a matter of wanting to give the game breathing room outside of a very busy period for Xbox Game Pass," he stated. (thanks, Insider Gaming)
Before this report, the game was scheduled for an autumn 2024 release window and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. November 12 was a release date leaked in a blog post, which however was never officially confirmed by Obsidian or Microsoft.
Avowed
Other than Avowed, Obsidian is said to be working on an unannounced title, according to its art director Daniel Cabuco, who has recently joined the company. Check it out if you are interested.
