AWS Joined Blender Development Fund

The Blender team will now fund the Animation 2020 project.

Amazon Web Services announced they decided to back open-source 3D tool Blender. Previously, AMD, Epic Games, Facebook, Nvidia, and have also become Corporate Patrons of the Blender Development Fund.

AWS is said to donate at least €120,000/year to help the development of Blender for at least three years. The money will be used for the development of Blender’s character animation tools.

The case is quite unusual as the money will be used for a specific toolset. The Blender team will now fund the 'Animation 2020' project to "redesign and upgrade Blender’s character animation system for the coming decade"

"It has always been my preference to work closely with industry talents on improving Blender," noted Blender Foundation chairman Ton Roosendaal. "Thanks to AWS’ support, we can recruit additional top developers to help us bring character animation in Blender to new heights."
