AYANEO AIR Handheld with OLED Display Announced
The $289 AIR Plus features Mendocino APU with RDNA 2 graphics.
AYANEO announced its handhelds AIR, AIR Pro, and AIR Plus, all featuring an OLED display. The newest AIR Plus model has one of AMD’s new Mendocino processors with Zen 2 CPU cores and RDNA 2 graphics, the same combination the custom Aerith processor in Valve's Steam Deck has but not as unique and with fewer GPU cores.
AIR & AIR Pro
AYANEO AIR and AIR Pro can show off a 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, AMD Ryzen 5 5560U processor running up to 4GHz with Radeon Vega 7 integrated graphics, and 8 to 32 GB LPDDR4x-3200 or LPDDR4x-4266 memory. The handhelds sport 128GB to 1TB SSD. There is also an upgraded version of AIR Pro, with AMD Ryzen 7 5825U running up to 4.5GHz, Radeon Vega 8, and up to 2TB SSD.
AIR has a 7,350 mAh battery, while AIR Pro can last a little longer with 10,050 mAh.
The AIR model's price will start from $549, AIR Pro – $649, with the 5825U version – $1399. The consoles will be launched in August and September.
AIR Plus
What makes it unique is AMD's new 6nm Mendocino processor, combining Zen 2 and RDNA 2 cores. It has a 6-inch 1080p display with support for Windows, the Linux-based AYANEO OS, or SteamOS, and an M.2 2280 expansion slot.
The handheld will cost $289, with a limited early bird offer of $199, which makes it cheaper than Steam Deck. However, it's also less powerful, with 2 GPU cores as opposed to the Deck's 8.
There is no release date for it yet.
