Baldur's Gate 3 Publishing Lead Believes Morrowind Remaster "Would Sell Like F*cking Hot Cakes"
Michael Douse disagrees with Bethesda's former developer Bruce Nesmith, who doesn't think people would want to play the game again.
Bethesda
The Elder Scrolls has three games that are considered the stars of the series: Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind. With the success the Oblivion remaster saw, one might think Morrowind deserves its own reimagining, but Bruce Nesmith, a former game designer at Bethesda, doesn't think so.
In an interview with Press Box PR, he said that people wouldn't want to play the game again despite "these fond memories of things that were pivotal moments in our gaming fantasy histories."
There are many "cringe" moments in both Morrowind and Oblivion, he thinks, but "the further back you go, the more that’s going to be an issue. The reality of playing Morrowind would not stand the test of time, in my opinion."
"Now if you were to completely remake Morrowind with the Skyrim engine, to try and rebuild it from the ground up, that’s a whole other story, but that’s an entire project. That’s a whole four-year development cycle. Why not go and make something new?"
Michael "Cromwelp" Douse, Larian's publishing director, disagrees. On X/Twitter, he said that Morrowind with a modern combat system "would sell like f*cking hot cakes."
Considering the popularity of the sacred trio of TES games, I'm surprised Nesmith has so little faith in fans' desire to replay that "cringe" they enjoyed back in the day. At least if the remaster is as good as Oblivion, which attracted more than 4 million players in three days after its release. Just saying.
