Oblivion Remastered Attracted Four Million Players In Three Days

This extraordinary achievement was accomplished without the publisher spending a dime on marketing campaigns.

Oblivion Remastered has attracted more than four million players in three days, an achievement that Bethesda Game Studios announced on social media with a thank-you letter to the community. Xbox also joined the celebration, replying to the news with a comment, "That's a lot of cheese wheels in pockets. Huge congrats."

This has made the performance of some other heavily promoted AAA titles released in the past half a year look less impressive in comparison. Assassin's Creed Shadows, which Ubisoft claimed had surpassed the launch numbers of Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey in terms of player engagement, attracted only three million players in its first week, while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, released in December 2024, reached four million players within its first month. Please note that these figures only reflect the number of players who tried the games and do not represent the number of copies sold.

What makes Oblivion's achievement even more extraordinary is that it was accomplished without Bethesda spending a penny on marketing. All the hype, which had accumulated since the game's existence was revealed through internal documents, came from unofficial channels, through numerous rumors and leaks. Most of the insider reports were ultimately proven true when Bethesda officially acknowledged the game's existence and shipped the remaster the next day.

Let's not forget that The Game Awards, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, opened its doors to more formats of game-related content, allowing DLCs, remakes, and remasters to compete in all categories. If this same rule is maintained this year, Oblivion Remastered could be a strong contender.
