Microsoft decided to make an exception for Larian Studios.
Swen Vincke, the Head of Larian Studio, shared good news for Xbox users. The manager announced that after a meeting with the Xbox Head Phil Spencer they agreed to ship Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox this year, but there's one special condition.

Vincke shared that the Xbox version will include all improvements and updates released for the game, plus the edition will have the split-screen coop mode on Series X. Unfortunately, the Xbox Series S will not include the split-screen coop mode, but the Head of Larian confirmed the console will have cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.
"Super happy to confirm that after meeting Phil Spencer yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time," wrote Swen Vincke.
Larian previously shared that they couldn't release the game on Xbox sooner due to optimization issues for the Series S. Usually, Microsoft requires developers to have feature parity between the Series X and Series S, but they have allowed Larian to have functional differences.
A month ago, Remedy's Communications Director supported fellow developers by saying he understands the challenges Larian faces with porting Baldur's Gate 3 to Xbox Series S adding that it is not simply a matter of optimization. Learn more here.
