A representative from Larian Studios has confirmed that the company is currently working on a new game.
The company's rep said (via VideoGamer), "Swen and the team['s]… full attention is focused on crafting their next title," and Larian moves to a "media blackout" for the foreseeable future.
Before, Larian already said that it didn't have plans to release more Baldur's Gate games, including DLCs. Larian's CEO Swen Vincke then said: "We are a company of big ideas. We are not a company that's made to create DLCs or expansions." Larian was reportedly working on two new IPs, and Vincke called the new projects that developers were working on their "best work ever." Director of Publishing Michael Douse said that the studio's next game would probably initially launch in early access, similar to Baldur's Gate 3.
However, the developer continues releasing updates for the beloved RPG. Patch 8, a large update with 12 new subclasses, cross-play, and photo mode, is on the way and will launch in 2025.
Baldur's Gate 3, released in 2023, became one of the most popular and acclaimed titles. It was acknowledged as Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2023 and was a winner in the category of Best Community Support in 2024. More than a year after its launch, its average number of concurrent and active players increased recently, most likely due to the launched mod support, as supposes Larian Studios Publishing Director Michael Douse.
