Battlefield 6 Is Such Hot Topic That It Can Literally Set GPUs on Fire
ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5090 couldn't handle the heat.

Battlefield 6 open beta weekend started hot – a bit too hot, actually, with casualties witnessed not only on the screen but in real life, too. One ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5090 owner, known as york4517 on GamerTW forums, felt the heat too close: during a match, their GPU suddenly caught on fire.
As reported by VideoCardz, their screen suddenly froze in the middle of the match, and they saw flames and felt a burning smell coming from the computer. york4517 says that the issue happened where the GPU meets the motherboard, with the fire lasting for about 10 seconds: "In fact, the burn was quite serious. Even the water cooling pipes were blackened."

According to VideoCardz, the PC was prebuilt, so no custom shenanigans can be blamed. The system has been sent to a repair center, and all ended relatively well in the end, but this sets a curious precedent.
While GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs' melting issues stemming from their flawed 16-pin power connector design are known, for the RTX 5090, it's uncommon but not unheard of.

As usual, if you want to see more combustion cases, Reddit is your best friend. In fact, the 5090 has been reported to catch fire a couple of times. Well, at least it's a cause for players' creative thinking: "This could be a good feature if they implement it into the game, grenade gets thrown at your player's feet and explodes, also blows up your laptop for added immersion," suggested one of them.

For york4517, the whole story ended more or less well: the PC has already been sent for repairs, and the owner will likely receive it back very soon.
