Blender 5.0's ACES 2.0 View Transform Explained

Christopher 3D shared a breakdown of the latest exciting feature.

Blender 5.0 is still some time away, with the beta expected to launch on October 1, 2025. As usual, though, features from the upcoming release are already starting to emerge, most notably, the community is focused on the integration of the ACES 2.0 color management system into the software.

But what does that actually mean? ACES, or Academy Color Encoding System, is a modern color workflow designed to keep colors accurate and consistent across all stages of production. This initial ACES 2.0 support introduces a view transform that serves as an alternative to AgX and Filmic, offering a similar purpose. It's particularly useful for artists working within an ACES pipeline who don't require the full ACES OpenColorIO configuration, as shared by Blender's Brecht Van Lommel.

If you want a comprehensive explanation, Christopher 3D's latest video dives into ACES 2.0 integration, how it handles high dynamic range, current limitations, and comparisons with previous color systems.
