In October 2024, the Blender Foundation conducted its first user survey to better understand the community's demographics, use cases, workflows, most requested improvements, ways users engage and contribute, and perspectives on the project's future direction.
The results are now publicly available, presented both as an illustrated and commented summary and as a raw dataset. More than 7,000 users took part in the survey over a two-week period, with 66% rating themselves as "very happy" in response to the question, "How happy are you with Blender?"
Among everything, the survey revealed a globally distributed user base, with the highest number of respondents from the United States, followed by India and Germany. Most users prefer English as their interface language, with Chinese and Spanish also commonly used. Also, nearly 40% of participants use experimental builds, indicating strong interest in upcoming features. Over half use Blender regularly, either daily or weekly. Among professionals, most work in film and animation, followed by graphic design and game development.
It'll be interesting to see how these trends evolve over time, as Blender's user base is steadily becoming more global, with more non-English speakers joining in. At the same time, more users are adopting it for professional work.
Feel free to explore the survey results yourself, including the Blender Foundation's responses to freeform feedback. The developers also welcome you to share any interesting insights or trends you discover.
