Project Gold, Blender's 16th Open Movie, has come a long way since its initial announcement in the spring of 2023. Although production was reportedly paused due to challenges in maintaining the creative energy needed to execute the project to its full potential, the Blender Studio team has since overcome these obstacles. The final version of Project Gold was presented at the Blender Conference 2024 in October.
This Thursday, November 7th, Blender Studio will release the highly anticipated Project Gold online. In addition to the showcase, several project files and the Brushstroke tools will be available as add-ons on the Extensions platform.

Blender Studio
Described as "a story from the heart, a metaphorical journey into the depths of human experience that explores the fragility of life and our capacity for resilience and inner transformation," on a creative level, Project Gold is set to explore an impressionistic, "visual poetry" aesthetic.
Initially, the Blender Studio team established the following key targets to explore with this project:
- Advanced rendering techniques, such as light linking;
- Simulation Nodes;
- Geometry Nodes-based tools;
- Extend the viewport compositor and interactive image processing;
- Art-directable, stylized, non-photorealistic rendering with Cycles.
The premiere will take place on Blender Studio's YouTube channel, followed by a livestream at 5 PM CET, where the team will provide more insights into the production and tools during a live Q&A session.
