Brewing a Cup of Tea in Houdini With MPM, POP & Other Solvers

The author also shared a concise breakdown showing how the sim was set up.

Ayman Abolila, a Senior FX TD at DNEG, has showcased a new, highly realistic 3D simulation that tea enthusiasts are sure to enjoy, depicting the entire process of making a cup of tea.

According to the creator, the sim was set up in Houdini using the Material Point Method (MPM) Solver, introduced in Houdini 20.5 to expand the FLIP Solver into solid mechanics, alongside other solvers such as Pyro, POP, and FLIP, as well as a Wet Map, which was used for steam effects, with rendering done in Karma XPU. To illustrate the workflow, Ayman also shared a concise breakdown of the simulation and recommended Purple Light's bubbles behavior tutorial, embedded below:
