Delicious 3D Cake Cooked With Houdini's New MPM Solver

Apoxia has unveiled a new R&D project.

3D Artist and Senior Motion Designer known as Apoxia continues experimenting with the latest 20.5 version of SideFX's procedural 3D software Houdini, unveiling an absolutely delicious and moist 3D cake simulation made entirely in Houdini.

To set up the sim, the artist utilized the newly introduced Material Point Method (MPM) Solver, which was added in Houdini 20.5 to extend the FLIP Solver to solid mechanics and allow the user to simulate such materials as snow, soil, mud, concrete, metal, jello, rubber, water, honey, sand, and more. The mechanical scooping mechanism was brought to life with KineFX, Houdini's rigging and animation framework, and the entire project was rendered with Karma XPU, a selectable engine of the Karma renderer.

And here are some of Apoxia's previous Houdini projects, you can check out more by visiting the creator's Twitter and Instagram pages:

Speaking of the material point method, just recently, Technical/VFX Artist Morteza Ahmadi, also known as CGElementary, utilized Maya's MPM Solver in Bifrost to set up a mouth-watering digital jelly that can jiggle and wobble and be cut with a spoon in a lifelike manner.
