Bungie reportedly plans to carry out significant layoffs following the end of active development of its online shooter Destiny 2.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, sources familiar with the studio's plans say that Bungie's Destiny 2 development team has no new project planned after the game's development wraps next month. A sequel to the online shooter is also not in immediate plans. The number of potential job cuts remains unknown.
Yesterday, Bungie officially confirmed that it will end the 'Destiny era,' and the update planned for release on June 9 will be a final live-service content update for Destiny 2. The games in the series will remain playable, but no new content will be released. "We're proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories," Bungie wrote.
As stated in the report, the studio is also focusing more on the extraction shooter Marathon and has moved some staff from the Destiny team to Marathon in recent months.
