The game entered the UK's retail charts at the No.1 place, with its sales surpassing its predecessor, Call of Duty: Vanguard, by 42% and 2020's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War by 9%.
New GfK data reveals that physical sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which was released last week, have far outstripped the results last year's Call of Duty: Vanguard managed to achieve during the first week of its release.
Modern Warfare II debuted at No.1 place in the UK's retail charts, with its sales surpassing Vanguard by a whopping 42%. The game's sales were also higher by 9% than those of 2020's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, compared to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, physical sales of Modern Warfare II were still down by 61%. But it's worth noting that since the release of the first Modern Warfare, there's been a significant shift toward digital sales.
The majority of Modern Warfare II copies were sold for PlayStation 5 (53%). Xbox represented 29% of physical sales of the game, and PlayStation 4 accounted for 18%. The game's sales also reflect that the title became the third-biggest physical release of the year following FIFA 22 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
With the release of Modern Warfare II, FIFA 23, which held the first position for the past four weeks, dropped to second place. Bayonetta 3, which was also released last week, entered the charts at the No.3 position.
Gotham Knights which debuted in the second position experienced a 73% drop in sales and fell to the No.5 place last week. Persona 5 Royal dropped from No.6 to No.15 following a 61% sales slide. A Plague Tale: Reqiuem which was released on October 18 left the Top 40 list altogether.
