Capcom Reports a Nearly 30% Drop in Sales
Capcom's net sales fell by almost 30%, however, the publisher hopes to make up for losses through the major new title releases in the second half of the fiscal year.
Capcom has shared its financial results for the six months ending September 30, 2022. According to the report, the company's net sales fell by almost 30% compared to the same period in the previous year to 49 million yen (around $336,424), and its operating income dropped by 24.3% to 21.9 million yen ($150,141).
The Japanese publisher attributes the year-over-year decline to the lack of multiple major new title releases that it had in 2021 and says that it hopes to make up for losses in the second half of the fiscal year through different measures, including the release of a "major new title".
The company also reiterated that Monster Hunter Rise sales surpassed 11 million copies in H1 2022 thanks to the release of the DLC, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, as well as "ongoing pricing measures", adding that Sunbreak also sold additional 400,000 copies from the last sales update, so its sales reached 4.4 million copies.
In addition, Capcom shared that the cumulative sales of the entire Monster Hunter series surpassed 88 million copies (2 million copies more since the last sales update).
As for other franchises, the Resident Evil 2 remake has sold over 10 million copies and the entire series has sold over 131 million units. Street Fighter series' sales surpassed 49 million copies, and the Devil May Cry franchise has cumulative sales of 27 million copies.
In the near future, Capcom plans to release several major releases: Resident Evil 4 remake, Street Fighter 6, and co-op shooter Exoprimal. All of them are scheduled for release in 2023.
