CD Projekt Red, the renowned developer of the beloved Witcher franchise, has exciting news for Mac users. They have shared plans to update The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, making them compatible with the latest macOS Ventura and Apple Silicon processors like the M1 and M2. This move reflects a growing trend of developers showing increased support for the macOS system.

While Valve recently decided to discontinue macOS support for new releases, such as Counter-Strike 2, CD Projekt Red is taking a different approach. They are going the extra mile by updating their earlier games to ensure seamless compatibility with the latest Mac computers. As a result, Mac users can eagerly anticipate enjoying The Witcher series on their devices without any technical problems.

While the update brings exciting improvements, there are some changes to consider. The minimum requirements for both games, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, will be updated. This means that macOS 11.0 or a newer version will be necessary to play them, rendering older operating systems like OS X 10 unsupported.

For Mac users with older machines that do not have Apple Silicon processors, it's advisable to disable automatic updates for these games on Steam. However, for those who own the games on GOG, there will be an option to roll back to a previous version if needed. This ensures flexibility and accommodates users with different system configurations.

"To continue playing on macOS lower than 11.0, keep the old version of the game. To do it on Steam and GOG, disable automatic updates. On AppStore no action is necessary. On all platforms, if the game is uninstalled, the latest update will be the only one available to install. However, on GOG rolling back to an earlier version is possible," as the developer stated on The Witcher's official website.

As for now, the specific release date for The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings on Apple computers and laptops with Apple Silicon chips has not been specified.

Some more news about CDPR, Adam Kiciński, the CEO of the company, will be moving on to the new position of Chief Strategy Officer in 2024, leaving the previous role to Adam Badowski, the Creative Director, and Michal Nowakowski, the Commercial Director, will take over as co-CEOs.
