Intro to Prop Modelling for Games is led by Respawn's Principal Environment Artist Ben Keeling.
CGMA is providing a great opportunity to hone your skills with its free course Intro to Prop Modelling for Games, led by Ben Keeling, Lead Environment Artist at Respawn who has worked on Star Wars, Halo, and Suicide Squad. There, you will learn how to create detailed, realistic props for games, like your own robot, and get personalized feedback, although feedback seats are limited.
The course lasts for a month. You'll receive pre-recorded content every week and will be able to ask Keeling questions during weekly live Q&A sessions. The artists will talk about the gaming industry, its history, current trends, and career paths and then move on to a more practical part of making a nature-inspired hard surface robot, completing the course with high poly modeling.

Week 1 – Introduction To The Gaming Industry
Kick off the course with an immersive introduction to the gaming industry. Learn about its history, current trends, career paths, and more.
Week 2 – Reference Gathering and Prop Blockout
This week we’ll explore creating a nature-inspired hard surface robot. We’ll start by collecting references and shaping our initial design into a greybox model.
Week 3 – High Poly Leg
This week is all about the practical aspects of prop modeling. Elevate your skills in high poly modeling, focusing on the robot’s legs. By week’s end, you’ll have a detailed leg design to show off.
Week 4 – High Poly Head and Body
Conclude the course by mastering the final stages of the prop modeling process. Continue your high poly journey, this time concentrating on the robot’s head and body. You’ll finish with a fully designed robot, showcasing your growing expertise.
