Chaos Acquires AXYZ Design

"This acquisition expands a growing ecosystem of real-time visualization tools, photorealistic renderers and 3D asset libraries."

3D visualization company Chaos announced its acquisition of AXYZ design, the developer of animation software designed to add realistic people and crowds to architectural visualizations.

The deal "expands a growing ecosystem of real-time visualization tools, photorealistic renderers and 3D asset libraries that help teams realize built experiences around the world," according to Chaos.

“AXYZ’s state-of-the-art assets give life to projects, so they actually connect with people,” said Christian Lang, Chaos CEO. “Anyone that’s been in architecture for a while knows how impactful digital humans are to the design and marketing process. 4D people is the next step in our journey.”

AXYZ design is known for its anima crowd simulation software and metropoly – a library of photo-scanned 3D people models.

Anima 5, released last year, has an AI system that allows the characters to avoid each other, get on and off stairs, escalators, tracks, and more. The characters are driven by real mocap data and an AI engine with automatic procedural motion.

In 2018, the company received an Unreal Dev Grant.

Access to anima will remain unchanged, according to the press release.

AXYZ design's anima joins a list of Chaos-owned apps, which includes V-Ray, Corona, Cylindo, and Enscape.
