Charles Martinet, the person behind the iconic "It's-a me, Mario" line, has spoken about his new position of a Mario Ambassador, saying "I don't know what that is yet".

At the end of August, Nintendo suddenly announced that actor Charles Martinet, the long-standing voice of Mario, would no longer be voicing the characters in their games after nearly 30 years of collaboration. With Martinet's brand-new role of Mario Ambassador, he'll be stepping aside from his previous duties, and "he'll continue to travel the world sharing the joy of Mario and interacting with you all."
Well, that's what Nintendo said. However, Martinet himself is not so sure about the new position since he doesn't know what to do with it. The only thing he knows for sure is that he hasn't retired yet.
"I am now a Mario Ambassador. I don't know what that is yet. I'm not retired as it were, but I'm an Ambassador. As we step forward into the future, we'll all learn exactly what that is," said Martinet.
The voice actor has noted that he has actually been Mario's brand representative for a long time because he values the time he spent with this character.
On the internet, the actor's statement was met with mixed reactions, with many interpreting it as him implying a one-sided decision by Nintendo, rather than his own.
The information on who will replace the former actor remains unknown. Nintendo has stated that fans will be informed in due course, maybe even through the credits rather than a special announcement. Learn more about the situation here.
