Check Out a 2.5D Claymation Metroidvania with Body-Swapping Mechanic
The indie developer behind Reclamation is trying to further improve and complete the game.
Senior Technical Lighting Artist Matt Heiniger, aka indie developer Hat Hair Games, has presented their work of the past few years called Reclamation, a 2.5D claymation Metroidvania that mixes up a unique body-swapping mechanic.
The trailer shows not only the unique style of claymation but also the process of creating the elements in the game, from the map and the characters to the platforms, props, and UI panels. According to the developer, the assets are all hand sculpted before being 3D scanned using “an efficient, state of the art photogrammetry pipeline,” which contributes to the game’s unique visual style.
On the adventure to restore the former glory of the great beast, players will be able to access most of the game’s six regions that form the large world from the beginning and explore each area that is visually distinct. The game offers 18 cute, controllable enemies, like yeti, dragons, one-eyed monsters, et cetera, each with their own sets of abilities and gives you access to new map areas. The body-swapping mechanic allows players to take possession of an enemy’s body and play as them.

The development of the game has been going on for the past few years, and through the videos and trailers that were published during the process, we could see how the game has evolved from a prototype to a project with richer features, visual effects, and contents:
Despite the huge progress made, the developer wants to improve and complete the game further. This will require some help from investors who can assist the indie team in bringing their vision to life by acquiring more talents. If you enjoy the game's concept or if you happen to know those who could offer a helping hand to Hat Hair Games, don’t hesitate to reach out to Matt Heiniger on LinkedIn or X/Twitter.
