Check Out How Silent Hill Looks Without Fog

Recently released Silent Hill 2 Remake already has numerous mods, some of which turn its world into a clear and sunny place.

The Silent Hill 2 Remake was released on October 8, and players already have created a lot of mods for it. Some of them bring a rather unexpected effect to the game – removing the fog from the in-game streets.

For instance, the mod Silent Hill 2 HD Collection "eradicates most of the fog from the game." The modder states that the goal is to "make the game more faithful to the HD collection of the original release."

The fog is an essential and iconic element of the Silent Hill world, and seeing the town without it completely changes its perception, although the overall somber mood is still in the air. What is more, the absence of the fog makes it possible to examine the details of the game world, for instance, the streets and the shops, and it is apparent now that the development team put much attention to detail and the creation of a photorealistic world.

Another mod, Sunny Hills, turns foggy and gloomy streets into bright and sun-lit environments, which brings a drastic change to the game's atmosphere:

One of the changes that the remake brought to the original story was the replacement of the original Comic Sans sign. Well, there's a mod Comic Sans Ranch Sign, which restores the famous element:

First announced in 2022, the remake of the Silent Hill game features enhanced visuals made with Unreal Engine 5. The developers paid close attention to the remake's graphics, making it more authentic and immersive with the 90s filter and interface adjustments, as well as a more immersive camera and performance capture. Even before the release, the game received a wave of attention from players leaving false reviews on the remake's Wikipedia page, as they were not content with the changes brought to the original story.
