In MAXIMA: Keepers of the 2nd Law, a surreal souls-like shooter evoking the aesthetics of the mysterious Astral Plane appearing in Remedy Entertainment's Control, you fight supernatural bosses, unlock powerful abilities from a branching skill tree, and navigate through ever-shifting challenging arenas.
Game Developer Calum Torrington demonstrated how he enhanced the shooting animations by incorporating dynamic sci-fi visual effects, adding a new layer of intensity. Although they're still a work in progress, the character controller here is impressively butter-smooth. The developer shared that it was created entirely from scratch and utilizes motion matching for core locomotion, complemented by a range of Mecanim poses and IK passes to ensure fluidity in movement.
