Check Out This Boss-Rush Game Prototype with Combat Inspired by Sekiro
Kevin Fournier shared how he creates a combat system for his game.
Game Designer Kevin Fournier showcased his work on a boss-rush prototype with Sekiro-inspired combat.
The creator highlighted the game's parry-heavy combat style, in which players need to pay close attention to their opponent's movements and figure out parry timings. In his own game, Kevin Fournier aims to build a combat system that requires players to recognize enemy abilities and timings in order to successfully parry attacks.
Another source of inspiration is the combo system – finding your own combos, according to the creator, is "extremely rewarding and fun." The developer shared that he would like to add a system that encourages players to vary their combos. To combine the two systems, the developer implemented a combo gauge. It increases when the player performs positive actions, such as parrying or landing hits, and decays when they take damage or disengage.
