Check Out This Massive 3D Environment Inspired by Iceland

This outstanding 16 km2 landscape was set up in Unreal Engine 5.3.

Edward Denton, a talented 3D Artist, Designer, and Art Director, has recently unveiled Islandia, a sizeable 16 km2 landscape created to get more familiar with a streamlined 3D environment production pipeline.

Inspired by Iceland's scenery, the scene was made using World Creator, Megascans assets, and Unreal Engine 5.3, as well as Unreal's Procedural Content Generation (PCG), a robust framework that lets its users quickly and easily populate large scenes with assets. "Small rock, boulders, tall grass, shrubs, and trees all generated with 1 PCG graph pulling info from 7 Landscape Layers and affected by terrain height, slope, and splines," commented the creator.

And here are some behind-the-scenes demos for Islandia shared by Edward over on Twitter:

You can learn more about the Islandia project by visiting Edward's ArtStation page and YouTube channel. And if you want to learn more about the artist himself, we highly recommend checking out our 2021 interview with Edward, where he discussed the Volsunga Project, shared some information about workflow and tools, and spoke about his general approach to designs.
