Circana: PlayStation 5 Sales Surpassed PlayStation 4
Resident Evil 4 is the best-selling game of March.
Industry-tracking firm Circana presented a report revealing that the PlayStation 5 sales surpassed the ones of PS4 in the USA. PS5 was the best-selling hardware platform in March and year-to-date since the beginning of 2023.
Video game hardware spending reached $566 million last month, it's 10% higher than in March 2022. This is the second-highest result for March in US history, following behind the $680 million reached in 2021. Overall, hardware spending is 21% higher compared to the $1.5 billion in the same period last year.
Consumer spending on video games, hardware, and accessories reached $4.6 billion, which is 5% lower than a year ago. Year-to-date consumer spending declined 1% compared to the same period in 2022, to $13.6B.
As for games, the remake of Resident Evil 4 became the best-selling title of March, followed by Hogwarts Legacy and the baseball game MLB The Show 23. Year-to-date it got third place, while Hogwarts Legacy became the most popular game, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II taking second place.
