Cities: Skylines 2-Style Road System Built In Unity

Let the developer know if you want it to be released as a free asset.

Unity Developer known on Reddit as Edd996 showcased a road system that they built. According to the developer, instead of relying on a node-based setup, roads can intersect dynamically at any point without snapping to predefined nodes. The curves are modeled as true circular arcs rather than Bézier curves, making them closer to real civil-engineering standards. Because the system is built entirely from straight lines and circular arcs, the intersection math is very lightweight, allowing it to run smoothly even on mobile devices.

Since most solo game developers don't have the resources to build complex systems, and the selection of store assets doesn't come close to the quality of those used in big titles, the goal is to eventually turn this into a free road system asset for the community. If you think this would be useful as a Unity asset, let the developer know.

If you want to learn more, there's a deeper technical analysis of roads in games on the developer's blog, and you can also subscribe to the newsletter for updates on the project.
