See how it started in this 5-year-old trailer.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the most popular games this year, along with Oblivion Remastered and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. However, its exciting action hasn't always been what we see now.
Fans found the game's trailer from 5 years ago posted by the director Guillaume Broche on Reddit, and it's wonderfully bare compared to the final project.
The game was called We Lost at the time, and Broche was trying to find people to voice some characters, including Maelle, for free. It was hard to compete with Jennifer English, who eventually got the role, so we can only applaud those who tried.

"This was our story. The story of how we fought. And the story of how we lost," says a text-to-speech robotic voice in the trailer. With some black screens where the team was working on cutscenes, the video mostly shows beautiful environments and combat. Some players note that if they didn't know what it would turn into, they wouldn't have given the game another glance based on the generic-looking trailer.

However, Expedition 33 has made it into many hearts years later, which should probably teach us to have faith in game developers' genius.
