Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sold One Million Copies Three Days After Launch

Sandfall Interactive's debut title has had an impressive release.

When Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based JRPG with real-time mechanics, was released on April 24, Sandfall Interactive wasn't expecting how wild the next 24 hours would be. That's totally understandable, as it's their first title since the studio was founded in 2020, and the development team consists of fewer than 50 developers, according to the studio's LinkedIn page.

Players' passion for this game has been overwhelming. When the game sold 500,000 copies in just its first day, a milestone they proudly shared on social media, they said it happened sooner than they had "ever imagined."

The momentum didn't go down, and two days later, another post spread even more happiness to the community: the game had reached the stunning milestone of one million copies sold in just three days.

Meanwhile, positive reviews from both players and critics add more gold to this shiny commercial performance. As of the time of writing this article, it boasts a 92% positive rate on Steam, and on Metacritic, its Metascore reached 92 based on 63 critic reviews, while the user score is as high as 9.7, based on ratings from nearly 3,000 players. For comparison, Grand Theft Auto V and Elden Ring received 8.5 and 8.2 user scores, respectively, on the platform. Another RPG that dropped two days earlier, Oblivion Remastered, received an 87 Metascore and an 8.1 user score.

Since the game was revealed last June during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, the development team has been sharing videos about its gameplay, characters, and soundtracks on its official YouTube channel. If you're interested in learning more about the game, it could be a great place to dive in.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 now has a promotion offer on Steam, making it available with 10% off before May 2. It's also available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
