Retro Skins Are Now Unlocked in League of Legends Classic

Riot addressed the backlash over charging for the old-school skins and made them free.

Recently, Riot unveiled League of Legends Classic, a new game mode that recreated the MOBA's nostalgic eras by bringing beloved locations and characters, starting with Season 3 as an anchor point.

However, players have criticized the project because unlocking the old-school "classic skins" required either grinding tokens or spending real money, as spotted by PC Gamer. "Charging for Classic Skins is genuinely wild," a Reddit user known as prime_desire wrote. "We are being asked to pay for what used to be the default look of the game. Under no circumstances should the old models be paywalled… especially when most champions in the mode still appear with their modern models anyway." The post has about 6,500 upvotes, with players in the comments supporting the thread.

Riot addressed the backlash: Brian Feeney, also known as FeralPony, addressed the feedback on Reddit, concluding: "Working hard with the team right now to make adjustments." Later, he took to X/Twitter with an announcement that the classic skins became unlocked for all champions that have one:
