Course: Creating Materials with Substance Designer & Reality Capture

Today we'd like to share with you a cover-all course for material artists that includes the best techniques, tips & tricks for working with art tools, and a step-by-step explanation of material creation. 

This 120-hour course is prepared by 2 art teams: FastTrack Tutorials and JROTools. It includes 5 comprehensive tutorials mentored by Lead and Senior Artists, with a step-by-step explanation of the workflow with materials, creation process in Substance Designer, Substance Painter, ZBrush, Reality Capture, and Marmoset. This collection of courses is prepared to uncover the material art from A to Z. You will be guided by several Lead Artists, receiving their tips and tricks, viewing their unique workflows, and obtaining all the needed skills for becoming a material artist.

The first tutorial in this course is created by Emiel Sleegers, a Senior Environment and Material Artist currently working in the AAA Game Industry. In this tutorial, you will go over how to create both beginner and advanced procedural materials using Substance Designer, how to sculpt materials using ZBrush and Substance Designer, and how to scan photogrammetry materials and convert them into 3D using Reality Capture.

The next 4 tutorials are focused on teaching and showing the whole creation process of advanced Substance Designer materials, you can dig into the full and commented source file or watch the creation process in the recorded videos.

The first tutorial will be mentored by Ben Wilson, Vinicius Ribeiro and Ilan Shoshan. With the instructors, you will work on mossy rock, bloody guts, and wool knit materials. This part of the course includes Substance Designer materials with detailed comments, 11 hours of recording content, PNG, Tiff, TGA textures, Substance Painter materials, and Marmoset Toolbag preview files.

The second tutorial contains 39 hours of recorded video, 4 hours of which are voice comments, with the step-by-step explanation of creating 4 new advanced materials: painted concrete, mud field, wool knit, and forest mirror. Your mentors will be Ben Wilson, Vinicius Ribeiro, Ilan Shoshan, and Enrico Tammekänd.

The third 30-hour session will cover the workflow with stylized rock, fur, sci-fi hull, and scales (27 hours of this tutorial are voice commented). You will work with Clark Coots, Vinicius Ribeiro, Ilan Shoshan, and Max Golosiy.

The last part of the bundle will uncover the creation process for the most complicated materials that should replicate a dynamic part of the scene: swamp, melting snow, riverbed. In this 36-hour tutorial the main focus will be again on Substance Designer, and its techniques. It's mentored by material artists James Ritossa, Javier Perez, Enrico Tammekänd, and Vinicius Ribeiro.
