Create Watercolor Renders in 3D With Gaku Tada's New Blender Add-on

Grease Pencil maestro's highly anticipated Deep Paint toolset is finally available.

If you are one of our website's regulars, you're most likely already familiar with the outstanding works of Gaku Tada, a Visual Artist whose watercolor-style 3D renders impressed us on more than one occasion. Today, the maestro amazed us once again, but not quite in the way you might expect. Instead of unveiling a new painterly masterpiece, he sent shockwaves through the internet by releasing a new Blender add-on that allows users to easily create hand-drawn 3D illustrations similar to his own – Deep Paint.

Having been a staple of Gaku's production pipeline for quite some time now, Deep Paint is a user-friendly toolset that expands the capabilities of Blender's Grease Pencil and allows you to model and paint in 3D more easily. Compatible with Blender 3.6 and higher, the add-on introduces useful tools for turning Grease Pencil strokes into 3D meshes, custom GP and texture paint brushes, useful material presets, and much more.

Here are some of Deep Paint's tools and features:

GP to Mesh: A tool for building meshes from Grease Pencil strokes. You can create a mesh from GP brush strokes, curves, mesh lines, and more.

Quick Modifier: Applies modifier easily without leaving history for quick organic modeling.

Custom Grease Pencil Brushes: Brings new Grease Pencil brushes with a custom pop-up window.

DPM and Outline: Easily apply for useful default deep paint material, it is vertex paint-based. Also easy outline button.

Material Presets: Useful material presets, such as noise texture mix with vertex mask, Edge Blur, Shadow Only, etc.

Custom Texture Paint Brushes (available in Deep Paint Pro): Custom brushes for texture painting, such as Watercolor, Pastel, Air Brush, etc.

And here are some of Gaku's earlier works made with the help of Deep Paint:
