CrowdStrike Buys Its Clients Coffee as Apology for Massive Outage

And you might not even get it.

The recent global outage caused by CrowdStrike's cybersecurity software on Windows systems shocked the world and blocked operations in big and small organizations, including Amazon, Visa, Mastercard, Sky News, National Australia Bank, and American Airlines. As previously reported, they couldn't proceed with operations due to a faulty update on CrowdStrike's side.

While the company is mending its programs and reputation, several people have shared they received an apology from CrowdStrike recognizing "the additional work that the July 19 incident has caused" (via TechCrunch) in the form of a $10 Uber Eats voucher. The email proposing this solution said, "Your next cup of coffee or late night snack is on us."

Many customers think it's a laughable way to right the wrongs, but what's worse is some users say they can't even redeem the codes, as Uber Eats says "We're sorry, this voucher has been cancelled by the issuing party and is no longer valid."

TechCrunch

CrowdStrike's spokesperson Kevin Benacci told TechCrunch that it's because Uber flagged the vouchers as fraud due to "high usage rates".

CrowdStrike’s update rendered 8.5 million Windows devices useless with a "blue screen of death", according to Microsoft, and the company has been trying to fix the issues that froze operations and caused delays. "On Friday we failed you, and for that I'm deeply sorry," said Shawn Henry, Chief Security Officer at CrowdStrike.

Hopefully, it will come up with a better way to make it up for its customers than just a cup of coffee.
