CD PROJEKT RED, Studio Trigger, and Netflix announced an anime series based on the upcoming game.
CD PROJEKT RED together with Studio Trigger and Netflix announced new anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The series will take place in the universe of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, release of which has been delayed until November 19th, 2020.
The series will tell a story of a kid surviving in the futuristic city of the Cyberpunk world. To keep himself alive in a dangerous place, he decided to become an edgerunner, or cyberpunk.
“We’ve devoured just about all the cyberpunk fiction there is to watch, read, and play; it’s a genre that leaves so much room for creativity, and has had such a strong influence on us. CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS is our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form.”
Adam Badowski, Cyberpunk 2077 Game Director and CD PROJEKT RED Head of Studio
The series will be animated by a Japanese animation studio, Studio Trigger, while Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Otsuka, who have worked together on Gurren Lagann and Promare, will take chairs of the directors. Yoh Yoshinari will design the characters, and the screenplay will be adapted by Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Otsuka. Akira Yamaoka will compose the original score.
The series will be out in 2022.
