DALL-E Introduces an Outpainting Feature

You can now expand AI-made pictures as much as your imagination allows.

The text-to-image AI tool DALL-E allows changing details within a picture, a feature that is called inpainting. Now, OpenAI offers artists to exercise their creativity with a new capability doing the opposite – outpainting. You can expand images as much as you want, creating large-scale images in any aspect ratio.

Outpainting takes into account the picture's existing visual elements, including shadows, reflections, and textures, to maintain the context of the original image.

This is basically what Adam Pickard did trying to recreate Eames' Powers of Ten in DALL-E as well as what Denis Shiryaev and Monkeyinlaw created by expanding famous paintings.

Outpainting is available to all DALL-E users on desktop. If you'd like to try it yourself, visit the tool's page and join the waitlist. Also, read about the update here and don't forget to join our Reddit page and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
